Manfield & Cary Orchestra to rock Oakville on final Canadian date https://mpcmusic.com/events/coming-soon-november-23-in-oakville/ Fri, 24 Oct 2014 00:46:02 +0000 http://mpcmusic.com/?post_type=event&p=918 Don’t miss this final Canadian engagement of Pianist/Composer/Singer Ron Manfield and the 18-piece Bob Cary Orchestra – at the  Oakville Centre. Straight from repeat engagements at Toronto’s  Lula Lounge, the band has been compelled to perform one last Canadian concert – a festive pre-Christmas, Sunday afternoon show.

Manfield and Cary have something special planned for this last show before upcoming dates in New York and Chicago.  “We were planning to do a last farewell concert in Toronto, but we’ve had an irresistible appeal to play Oakville because of the Town’s fondness for our type of big orchestra music,” says Manfield.  “Bob and I are cooking  something up.  It’s going to be a whole lot of fun,” Manfield adds.

Where big bands are concerned, Bob Cary is the real deal — a  veteran of both Dorsey bands, who’s played with the legendary Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall, Peggy Lee, Tony Bennett and as well as Sonny and Cher. Bob is a member of the International Trumpet Guide, and the Glenn Miller  Appreciation Society in the UK.

The highlight of the tour that began earlier in 2014 is crooner Manfield’s performance of the ballad he penned “All for Julie” accompanied by the 18-piece pit band with a unique sound, under legendary trumpeter and band leader Bob Cary.  Joining the band on stage will be special guest chanteuse Sharon Smith.

“All for Julie,” forms the basis of the story behind a dramatic feature film in development for which Manfield is producer and writing the score.  “It’s a love-story drama that has echoes of great tragedy,” he comments. The screenplay, based upon Manfield’s original idea, was written by multiple-award winning TV producer and documentary maker Richard M. Landau, an Oakville resident.

November 23 tickets are available through OakvilleCentre.ca website or at the door for $45.

Proceeds support The Rotary Foundation’s Polio Eradication fundraising initiative in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Don’t miss this final Canadian engagement of Pianist/Composer/Singer Ron Manfield and the 18-piece Bob Cary Orchestra – at Lula Lounge. They thrilled the house on July 22, now they’re back.

“It was like being at a Count Basie concert,” adds film producer Wayne Johnson.

Manfield and Cary have something special planned for this last show  before upcoming dates in New York and Chicago. “I’m not letting on, but Bob and I are cooking something up. It’s going to be a whole lot of fun,” Manfield says.

Crooner Ron Manfield returns to Lula Lounge https://mpcmusic.com/events/crooner-ron-manfield-returns-to-lula-lounge-july-22/ Wed, 25 Jun 2014 16:09:09 +0000 http://mpcmusic.com/?post_type=event&p=203 Featuring original movie soundtrack

Crooner Ron Manfield brings bold sound to Lula Lounge July 22

The song that has inspired a motion picture is at the heart of a new movement in music, on view July 22 at Lula Lounge. Fresh from his tour-de-force performance at the Lounge in spring, crooner Ron Manfield’s summer concert will feature the ballad “All for Julie” and an 18-piece pit band with a unique sound, under legendary trumpeter and band leader Bob Cary.

“It’s new…it’s not a big band orchestra,” says Manfield.  “It’s an 18-piece pit band with a big brassy sound, under leader Bob Cary. We think it’s going to pioneer and popularize a new, rich sound.”

Multi-talented singer-songwriter Manfield and company delighted a packed house at Lula Lounge in May with standards like “My Way” and “As Time Goes By.” The lineup is returning for the July 22 concert .

Original movie soundtrack
The highlight of the July 22 concert will be Manfield original composition “All for Julie,” (see clip) a love ballad that forms the basis of the story behind a dramatic feature film in development for which Manfield is producer and writing the score.  “It’s a moving love-story drama that has echoes of the tragic opera Aida,” he comments. The screenplay, based upon Manfield’s original idea, was written by multiple-award winning TV producer and documentary maker Richard M. Landau.  The pair are now shopping the screenplay to production houses.

Through his company MPC Music, Ron Manfield has involved himself in a range of community projects and charitable organizations.

The Lula Lounge, originally constructed in the 50’s as a movie theater, has the perfect ambiance for a cabaret-style production, with table seating that places the audience close to the performers.

“I chose Lula Lounge because it has acoustics that are ideally suited to my type of intimate performance,” adds Manfield, who will be performing a similar concert at Chicago’s elite Union League Club, in September 2015. A musician’s musician, his performances appeal to mature, sensitive listeners who appreciate well crafted and intricately arranged pieces.

One of the music scene’s best-kept secrets, Manfield, who lives in the Greater Toronto Area, is also a record producer who has worked with such local luminaries as Norm Amadio and Bobby Edwards who was Kenny Rogers’s Studio Staff Guitarist in LA.
